Today we’d like to introduce you to Lilia Macias-Moriarity.
Hi Lilia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Thank you for inviting me to contribute to Voyage Savannah. I am a Mexican Texan, who came to Savannah for my love; my husband of 29 years accepted a position in the Hostess City in 2006. Fast forward to 2021, my youngest child flew the coop and gave me the opportunity to start a second career in real estate.
The question was, what kind of agent do I want to be? Andi DeFelice, the broker of Exclusive Buyer’s Realty, represented our family in the purchase of four homes in Savannah. She always made us feel like we were the center of her universe, where every detail of our lives and the needs of our family were carefully curated to find the right home.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenge was not being a native of Savannah. In 2006, when we arrived, I didn’t have any context in finding the right school for each of my children. Since then, I have seen tremendous growth in Savannah, with more industry and tourism. Also, the pandemic presented people the opportunity to work remotely and not wait until they retire to enjoy a southern coastal lifestyle while maintaining their positions elsewhere.
Another challenge is making every person feel, by words and actions, that they are your ONLY client. This is accomplished by listening. Listening then leads to understanding your client’s needs and wants and marrying those with our amazing community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
You expect 100% focus from certain professionals that touch your life doctor, or your accountant. Your real estate agent should be on that short list too. That is who I strive to be, an exclusive buyer’s agent that gives you 100% loyalty and advocacy in what is arguably your largest purchase. Homes build a legacy.
Homes build generational wealth. Homes anchor families. As a native of the U.S./Mexico Border, I was raised in a bilingual and bicultural environment, which gave root to my capacity to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. I am thankful to meet my client’s real estate needs in either language.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I love giant breeds, maybe because I’m five feet tall. Since 1999, a Great Dane has graced our home. Recently, we added a Maine Coon to the mix.
